Faithful Parents, Faithful Legacy

I have singled him out so that he will direct his sons and their families to keep the way of the Lord  by doing what is right and just…” – Genesis 18:19 (NLT)

The Bible showcases numerous examples of godly parents who faithfully raised their children in God’s ways, telling us that it is possible.

In Genesis 18:17-19, we read about God’s plan for Abraham: to make him a great and mighty nation. Abraham committed to following God’s plans and teaching his household. This is a powerful example for parents today. With Abraham answering the call of God, God established him as the one responsible for training his children to keep the Commandments of God, i.e., to do what’s right and just.

In today’s society, we see how some fathers have gone astray, leaving their responsibilities to others. But Deuteronomy 6:7 reminds us that parents should teach their children daily. May  God turn around this behaviour for His glory.

Exodus 2:1-10 highlights Jochebed, Moses’ mother, who risked everything to save her son and instill faith in him in a foreigner’s palace; her bravery and trust in God paved the way for Moses’ leadership. His birth, escape from death, and all the events of his youth were under the direction of God. Romans 8:28 informs us that God uses all things to accomplish His will.

Conclusively, 2 Timothy 1:5 describes how Timothy’s mother, Eunice, and grandmother, Lois, nurtured his faith. Their legacy of faith empowered Timothy for his ministry – godly women, leaving a godly legacy.

We need to trust God for our children and their offspring. Even though sometimes we teach the right things and they turn away, keep praying and loving them; they will return like the prodigal son.

Prayer

Dear God, thank You for the examples of godly parents in the Bible. Help us to follow Your Word faithfully, teaching our children Your way and nurturing their faith in You. May we leave a legacy of love, trust, and obedience for them in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
